Why we started GOMO

Why we started GOMO

Ollie and I have been friends for fifteen years. We met in Bath, ended up in London, and spent the best part of a decade working in product development and consulting - the kind of jobs where you spend a lot of time thinking carefully about how things are built and why.

We also like a beer. We travel when we can. We exercise most mornings, whether that’s the gym, a ride or a run before work. And we both know what it feels like to need to be sharp at 9am after a late night, a long week or a flight the day before.

That gap - between how you’ve been living and how you need to show up - is where GOMO started.

The gummy phase

The honest version of this story includes the period where we tried to make a gummy. The logic was there - convenient, easy to take, something people would actually remember to use. The problem was the formulation. You simply can’t get meaningful levels of electrolytes and vitamins in a gummy, and it did not solve the focus problem we were beginning to recognise.

So we went back to the drawing board and landed on a powder. It’s a better format for what we were trying to do - higher doses, cleaner ingredients, nothing wasted on making it chewy.

Finding the right people

We worked with biochemists to get the formulation right. That took longer than we expected and we’re glad it did. The product we launched is one we use ourselves, every morning - which was always the standard it had to meet.

Finding our manufacturer was one of those moments where things clicked. The right partner makes an enormous difference, and we were lucky to find people who cared about what went into the product as much as we did.

What building it has actually been like

Genuinely fun. That’s the honest answer.

Pop-ups where we talked to people face to face about what they were looking for. Sponsoring pilates events and watching people try it for the first time. Working with designers, photographers and content creators who understood what we were trying to do and made it look far better than we could have on our own.

There’s something about building a brand from scratch - with a product you actually believe in, alongside people you actually like - that makes the hard parts worth it.

Where we are now

GOMO is still early. We’re a small team, we’re learning constantly, and we’re building something we hope becomes part of people’s daily routines the way it’s become part of ours.

If you’ve tried it, thank you. If you haven’t, we think you’ll like it.

Why we started GOMO

Two friends from Bath, a failed attempt at kitchen gummies, some brilliant biochemists and a lot of fun along the way. Here’s why we started GOMO.
